Does a Toilet Flush Use?
With the advent of
domestic water rates in Ireland it is useful to understand how much
water we use when we engage in normal day-to-day activities. For
example do you know how much water an average flush of the toilet
uses? And how much does that cost in terms of Euro and Cents?
Flush Water Usage and Cost
Modern cisterns (those
installed in the last ten years) use six litres per flush. Older
toilets can use up to 12 litres. Using an average of eight litres
per flush, and ten flushes per day, this uses 80 litres of water.
At current Irish Water rates this will cost you €64 per year.
This is almost definitely a conservative estimate for most households.
Some estimates put the amount of all domestic water used by toilet
flushing at a staggering 30%.
Ways of Saving Water
One of the best ways
of saving water is to install a water butt to collect the free rain
water that falls onto your roof. Order
